Ein Bokek – Water Hike For The Entire Family

Cost: Free
Accessibility: not accessible to strollers – only with carrier
Route: walking in water, out & back
Difficulty level: easy – suitable for the whole family
Region in Israel: The Dead Sea
Duration of the trip: half a day
Bokek  stream is one of the short streams in the Judaean desert (who knew there is a stream in the desert?). Its length is about 15 km. It has a long and a short hikes. I will  talk (write?) today about the short hike that suitable for families with children.
The beginning of the hike starts next to the Dead Sea hotels. There is regulated parking on Route 90, near the hotels. From that point there is two-minute walk in the desert down to the stream. Upon descending to the stream turn right and follow the black marks.
The beginning can seem a bit disappointing.

After about five minutes of walking you will reach the fun part. Big rocks, small  pools and waterfalls.
Most of the hike involves walking in water (which is the best on hot days), and easy climbing on rocks. There is also a simple section of climbing on ladders. We hike until we got the ladders and retraced our steps back. Tamara was in a carrier and I was a scared to climb the ladders with her.
All in all, the hike is simple, Noam did it like a champ and I was able to climb even with the carrier.

Although we didn’t hike until the end of the black marks, we had so much fun!
There are water pools for children, waterfalls, shade, and also dry corners to sit and eat. We spent about three hours in Ein Bokek and had a great time.

Recommendations

– Do not wear flip flops! Sandals that are suitable for walking in water or closed shoes
– Bring a towel and clothes for the little ones and leave it in the car
– It’s a Hike that is suitable also for hot days
– Bring a coffee kit, it will be nice for you while the children are  in the water
